Do You Need Expensive Professional Photography Equipment?

Do you love to take pictures? Have you ever thought that you might want to make a living taking pictures? Being a professional photographer can be a really rewarding career, and if this is something that appeals to you, then there are some things you are going to need.

First of all, you are going to need to get the proper training, if you do not already have it. And, you are going to need to have some specific pieces of professional photography equipment. And, you are going to want to try to find the best deals available, because some of this equipment can get pretty expensive.

Professional Photography Equipment You Will Need

Some people think that in order to be a professional photographer, you need to go out and get the top of the line, most expensive photography equipment.

This is not always true!

You can get some pretty amazing photos from some lower end cameras, and if you are just starting out, you will probably not have a budget for much more.

For example, if you plan to specialize in portrait photography, you are going to need the following professional photography equipment:

• A good camera - digital or 35 mm, whichever you prefer to use (if you are using 35 mm, make sure that you always have loads of film on hand).


• Lenses - you are going to need more than one lens. For example, you will need a close up lens, a wide angle lens, and possibly a telephoto lens to get all of the shots you want, especially if you want to get really creative.


• An external flash - many cameras have a built in flash, but these are not powerful enough for many settings, such as inside a large church where you need to have an additional light source.


• A tripod - you are going to be doing a lot of standing, and a lot of your shots at weddings are static shots, so you can just set up the camera on a tripod and shoot using a remote control.


• A light meter - no matter what type of photography you are getting into, you need to have a good light meter.


• A good camera bag - you will need something to carry all of your gear in, so it is a good idea to get a good quality camera bag. It is going to cost you a bit, but it is worth it rather than the cost of having to replace camera equipment because you used a flimsy carrying case.


• A studio - unless you plan on doing all of your photography on location, you are going to need to set up a studio. This means that you are going to need lighting and other equipment, which can get pretty expensive after a while.

Now, this is just what you will need for weddings. But, for most of the photography you will be doing, this is all of the professional photography equipment you will probably ever need to have.

You Don't Have To Spend a Lot For Professional Photography Equipment

There are a lot of things that are really expensive, and certain pieces of photography equipment are included in this list. Most of the time, you can get pretty good deals on camera bodies. It is the lenses that are going to cost you, because the optics are so expensive for the lens companies to make. You don't need to get equipment that is brand new.

For instance, pawn shops often have some excellent professional photography equipment available. You can also check out the want ads, and there are many companies that sell shelf models, meaning that they are new, but considered used, so they are less expensive.

If you are getting into the photography business, and are looking for the right professional photography equipment, decide what you really need, and just by those items. Shop around for the best deals, and soon, the gear you purchase will pay for itself.
